does the FS pitch a fit if we cut trees that are on the trail? There are 2 - 3 trees down across the trail that are bigger than I think I can cut without power equipment and I don't want to get punished for doing good [as governmental organizations tend to do].

I called the campground steward to tell him about the hazard I found and he didn't have a satisfactory answer when I asked him what the rules were for clearing the trail.

I didn't want to do anything that might get "us" in trouble.

small trees? big trees? if they are not too big and are laying nicely can we build ramps to go over them?
sometimes those trees and rocks are a nice challenge and if you clear everything off the trail then you might as well go ride a road bike. just a thought at getting creative.

I'll leave the decision to remove or "bridge" those obstacles to someone else and just enjoy the ride. A 10" sweetgum is less than 100 yards from the boat launch bathroom, and is a minor inconvenience. A more significant cherry is completely across the trail maybe 1/2 way between the boat launch and the power line Right-Of-Way. You can go around it but you'll have to get off the bike to do so. The top of the obstacle is about 3' off the ground. A third small tree [gum] is down on the east side of the upper lake and is a minor inconvenience.

Thanks to those who helped design and maintain the Caney trail system. I'm enjoying having a place to ride that's right up the road from my house!

Thank Don Hunter for most of the trail maintenance out there.
