I decided to take the weekend off from xc skiing up here in the north central part on New Mexico and went down south to the east side of the Franklin Mts (just north of El Paso, about a 3 hr drive from ABQ) and pre-rode the Coyote Classic race course which I intend to participate in a couple weeks.
It's about as different of a landscape as you can get from Louisiana. The Sport Course is one lap (almost 2600' of climbing over 19 miles-ish): http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/player/7684687 * ![]() ![]() The trail was pretty busy, the weather beautiful and the scenery nice.. oh, and everything has spikes or thorns on it, so crashing isn't going to be fun and tubeless is a MUST. ![]() *Motionbased link borrowed as I don't have the capability to create them

I've heard good things about that race, and those trails. Aside from the thorns, what did you think of 'em?

Scooter,
You might like Race #4/5, the La Tierra Torture in Santa Fe on May 1-2. It features a short track on Sat and a XC race on Sun, and if you are one of the first 100 to sign up for both ($50 ea) you get a race jersey.

That does look like a fun race, but little likelihood I'll travel for mtb races this year.

Not yet, but that's not it. My travel these days is limited to particular road events that I've wanted to do over the years, and maybe a 'gravel grinder' or two. I'm signed up for the Dirty Kanza, http://www.dirtykanza200.com/ for example, and if I'm not working at the time I plan to use the roadie stage races in La in May as a final tune-up of sorts. Nothing like stage racing to really get you in shape, except a couple, maybe three, stage races on successive weekends.

Speaking of road racing, are you going to do any more road races now that R-R is over, Lynn?

"Training" for the race season includes a trip over to Sedona, AZ this weekend for the AZ Spring Fling.
I'm wanting to try my hand at the Sedona Big Friggin' Loop... or at least part of it anyway. ![]()
