Default Tues - Thurs Road Rides

With the time change just around the corner, I wanted to post up the most recent happenings for the road rides that will begin on Tuesday and Thursday.

LaS'port is currently in the process of identifying a new ride start location and time for the road rides. Due to the increased truck traffic on the route(s) starting from Ellerbe Rd. Baptist to include the Linwood loop, rider safety has become a real concern therefore, both groups (LaS'port and SBC) that have started from that location presented material at meetings last night to relocate rides to a safer area. At this point, LaS'port will be moving the ride to North Bossier with a start time of 5:45 to allow people additional time for travel. Actual parking location is TBD at this point, we are reviewing several locations over the next few days and will send out some follow-up communication in that regard once determined.

Stay tuned.

Its doubtful that all will go to the new ride location. I foresee the rides from ERBC to continue as they have in the past but with less people since the people living in Bossier will most likely do those rides. Cycling has grown tremendously in S'port/Bossier over the past 5-10 years and adding another Tuesday/Thursday ride location in Bossier is a positive thing. It gives all more options. Hopefully people that just couldn't make it to ERBC in the past will have a better option and will be able to ride more.
Splitting the rides up and having smaller groups will be better for traffic issues as well as awareness to the public that our sport is growing which will all lead to more support from our communities and city governments in the future. A lot more Share the Road signs would be great too! Bike Lanes??? Can North LA handle it? Bossier seems to accept change a little better than S'port...
I hope the Tuesday and Thursday Urban rides continue as well or at the very least have them 1 day a week. Options are good!

To those who dont want to ride in Bossier, I say suck it up. Several of us have been driving to South Shreveport for several years and altering our work schedule so that we would not miss the group rides because of the importance of the training and teamwork aspects. We need to give it a chance and make as many as possible. Besides the ERBC could use a break from us for a while.

T Bone you only work 40 hours a week. Drive your butt to Bossier!

Default Ride Information

The new Tuesday/ Thursday LaS'port road ride will be held beginning this next Tuesday starting at 5:45 pm at Cypress Baptist Church located at 4701 Palmetto Road, Benton, LA 71006.

The church is on the right, see link below.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...,0.038409&z=15

We will need to utilize the lot on the North side of the church, as you face the church the lot is on the left. Parking will be adequate.

-Please be respectful of the church property.
-No urinating on or around the property
-Do not litter
-Keep profanity under control

Although I will not be making any of these rides, or at least I dont think I will. I will add to the dscussion.

I have been riding the bossier roads for over a century and what I would add would be a meeting place in Northeast Bossier would be a great alternative meeting place if Benton doesnt work out.

Stockwell Elem school would put you in a position to hit numerous types of rides. Good roads, hills, a lot less traffic then the first part of the benton route and for sure less than south s'port. Stockwell (or east bossier) is million times easier to get to for most folks regardless of where you are coming from due to it proximity to I-220 and I-20. Getting to Benton from 430 up will be a challenge for most. Benton road will definetly be your best bet, Airline drive is the worst example of city planning and traffic sucks! .

I believe that Stockwell Elem. was discussed as an alternate route. I agree that it is another good place to meet with many quality routes.
